About Us ~

Barnstaple u3a was formed in 1984 making it almost one of the first to be established in the country never mind in the county.   It is for the enjoyment of anyone no longer in full time employment and provides an opportunity to meet others who share similar interests and get together to find ways to learn more, take exercise, and generally socialise.   Many groups are formed by members, for members, and cover a wide range of topics from Bonsai to Literature, Table Tennis to Rambling, and Bonsai to Music.

Barnstaple is run by a committee of volunteer members who oversee all finances and administration to provide support for members running groups; positively encouraging anyone wishing to introduce a new group.   All u3a's are in turn supported by a National Organisation which also gives advice and guidance.

For details about membership please, go to our Membership page and for information about groups currently running to the Groups page. Other information is shown on the What's On page

Our principal meeting is our Coffee Morning with Guest Speaker (hearing loop in operation) held usually on the first Thursday of each month at the Roundswell Community Hall, Barnstaple, from 9.45 am to about 12 noon.

The business of the meeting begins at 10.30am, and the cost including coffee/tea and biscuit is currently the brilliant price of only £1.

Barnstaple is an attractive small town in North Devon set on the estuary of the river Taw.   It is about 5 miles from the golden sandy beaches of Instow, Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe.

A warm welcome will be given to you by our friendly group.

We hope you find this website useful.   If not, please tell our Website Manager - Nigel - thank you.
